Fonts folder is screwed up, how do I restore?

I recently switched to a new iMac and I copied the fonts folder and somewhere along the way they got screwed up. The biggest example of this is the dictionary widget displays incorrectly with wierd fonts.

Is there anything I can do to fix this or restore the orginal folders.

    Use the Application Font Book to validate all your fonts. Most likely one or more is corrupt.

    This happened to me a while back and I found a second, corrupt copy of a font. Some apps used the good one and some used the bad. But removing the corrupted font fixed the display issue.

    I swear there's another Genius Bar thread about practically this same issue.

    Nuke the site from orbit!

    ...if possible, obtain a firewire drive and install a clean system on it -- an iPod will do.

    When you're done, corral the folders:

    System -->Library -->Fonts

    Library -->Fonts

    ...and 'create archive' on both those folders, then put them in a safe place.

    reboot to the frelled system, mount your external drive, then bring those folders in and replace the respective folders.

    That should do it. Maybe repair permissions afterwards.
