CS2 and HD corruption problem

So, it seems as though a lot of us are experiencing CS2's penchant for screwing up our hard drives... does anybody know anyway of rectifying problems such as 'Illegal Names' on our hard drives, or is it simply a case of backing-up on to DVD on a daily basis?
