Activity Monitor Questions

I'd like to start a thread for questions about activity in the Activity Monitor.



To get things started:



Just had my HD start making lots of noise while typing mail, opened AM and saw the user listed as NOBODY and the process name was "find", then later "sort". All stopped and finished in a couple of minutes.



What are "find" and "sort" and who the hell is "nobody"? (I am SOMEBODY!)



pmtool seems to be running contantly, what is it?
