Why is my DSL so horrifically slow?

All of a sudden, my Earthlink DSL is dial-up like.

Barring some kind of ongoing slowdown on Earthlink's side (unlikely, as this has been going on for a week or so), is there something in my system that can go kerflooy and cause this? Do aging DSL modems get wonky? Has something come unsettled in my network settings? Is my NIC knocked? Ethernet gnarled?

Must find relief. Slow internet makes crazy, am grinding teeth.

A simple power cycle solves a lot of DSL problems. Try that first. Earthlink could also be having problems with their network and is using backup connections that are slower.

One day my cable modem maxed out at 10K all day. Slow as hell, but fast the next day.

Ah, power cycling: the PRAM reset/desktop rebuild/repair permissions of DSL modems.

And things are much better! Thanks for the reminder!

earthlink knows this problems exists. the network can't handle the amount of users at peak usage. talked to earthlink a 100 times. they came over twice, said it was good. and it failed again. Complained daily until they gave it to me for free. It stills freezes up. at least thats what they told me. it'll happen again, i'll bet
