Audion 2.5 X

On MacCentral yesterday there was a small article about the release of MacAmp Lite for Mac OS X. In the discussion followup there was talk of the forthcoming Audion 3. This had lead me to re-think of using Audion 2.5 instead of using iTunes 2.04. The current Audion 2.5 does have a slightly better sound than iTunes. Am I wrong or is this just misinterpetion on my part? I would be interested to hear what others in this forum think.

I'm not entirely sure about the sound quality, but I'd certainly like to try out some alternatives to iTunes.

Unfortunately, all the developers seem to have been incredibly slow to update with iPod support.

Unfortunately, Audion's nonstandard, wonky UI has kept me at arms length and back with iTunes. Plus, I don't think Audion (remember, it's 2.6.1 now) sounds any better than iTunes. Sure, the plugin architecture is nice, but there are no plugins other than the defaults! I've got high hopes for a major revamp in Audion 3...

    My 2¢. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

The thing with alternative mp3 players, I have found, is that managing huge amounts of songs is always a pain in the bum. I have nigh on 4000 tracks now (400 artists, 300 albums), and trying to manage those through Audion was always frikkin annoying.

Asking my girlfriend to change tracks to a totally different artist/album in Audion would be a no-no.
