Be glad you don't live in New Jersey

No I don't mean because that's where Fran Drescher is from. I mean because they want to invade your privacy in the most serious way:

It seems a (Republican) Assemblyman is trying to introduce a bill that will eliminate anonymous posting on internet forums by requiring all forum hosts to record names and addresses of every poster.

Why does this man hate freedom?

I'm sure it would be real hard to post a fake address...

I bet at least half of all people posting will live on Pennsylvania Avenue.

then won't it just be boards based in new jersey, because I don't see boards, servers, and isps outside of new jersey going along with this. That would be a whole lot of wasted time on some grade a bs.

I don't see this getting passed. And if it does, hopefully the ACLU will come after it on invasion of privacy.

Doesn't make much sense to have an AA board or a rape survivors board with everyone's real names and addresses on it. That's not inviting harassment.

surely leglislation on an hosting server only applies to the place where the server is located.

for example, there are a lot of UK boards where the hosting server is in the US. In such cases, its generally taken that the US leglislation and rules apply and over-ride the UK ones.

If thats the case, then surely if such narrow-minded ideas would drive hosting servers outwith areas where the legislation applied?
