.mac sync problems

I just signed up for the free .mac trial. I have my mail up and running, but my computer cannot login to the sync server when I try to setup the system preferences.

"unable to login to the .Mac synchronization server. .Mac login failed."

I have a G4 iBook 14inch with 10.4.5. I connect to the internet with Verizon DSL via an Airport Express.

Any thoughts?
