dumb question?

ok so my 1st gen ipod is dead after loyal and manful service. I've bought a new 5th gen ipod to replace it.

I have a firewire charging cable from my girlfriends ipod mini but I can't use it to download from my 12" powerbook. I'm forced to use the pb's usb 1 instead which is way slower than fw.

Seems crazy, is there an update i can apply to allow me to download via fw?

Yah. The new 5th gen and nano's can charge with firewire but can't sync. Sorry there really isn't a better solution for the 12" w/o USB 2 or PC Card slots.

Unfortunately, no. The 5G does not have the hardware to handle firewire transfers, sorry.

For now, I'd say do as much of your iPod syncing as possible overnight. Plug it in right before bed and let the stuff transfer while you're asleep.
