ipod has playlist not in iTunes + what is checked podcast?
How do I remove a playlist that is somehow on the iPod but not in iTunes?
Also, does a checked podcast mean 'listened to' or 'new' ? very confused, iTunes help doesn't mention it (at least where I can find it). And why doesn't the 'back' button on my mouse work in the music store? Bad music store...heh.

A blue dot next to it means it hasn't been listened to yet.

yes, but there is also a 'checkbox' what is that all about? Why don't they have tooltips?

You should be able to just delete the playlist by selecting it and hitting command+delete. You may need to change the iPod prefs in iTunes from automatic to manual updating temporarily.
like I said, its on my iPod, not in iTunes. iPod has not a command delete..you have a 6th gen?

The checkbox determined whether
1) the item gets burnt if you were to put it in a playlist
2) the item gets played during normal continuous play
etc.

podcast settings are "keep all unplayed episodes".
note the blue check box. Now the problem here is, I've listened to every one of these except the checked item....which somehow iTunes is managing checking or unchecking them... so how does that fit in. AND even more crucial, why are the 'heard' items still on my list? I really think the way iTunes handles podcasts leaves a lot to be desired. Very confusing.

Select the iPod within iTunes while it's connected to your computer, and delete in from there. There's a disclosure triangle next to the iPod icon in the iTunes playlist column. Hit that if necessary to reveal the playlists on your iPod, (they will be indented) then select it, and delete it. Note: Deleting the setlist will not delete the songs within the set list. In order to do that, you'll have to hilite the iPod icon in iTunes and find the songs there, then delete them.
Sorry if I wasn't clear before.
