slow video

Hi



I want to watch a video file on my clanshell Ibook special edition.



The video plays on VLC but is very slow and the sound is 5 seconds ahead.



I know it is an old laptop but is there a program which will play it fine, or do i need to change some settings?



Any help appreiciated.

    If your machine is old, some video just won't play well no matter what you do. It's all to do with the video bitrate. If that is higher than the data throughput of your machine then it will play slowly. You can encode video to a lower bitrate but then you lose quality.



    One thing that may work is if you use MPlayer. I like this version as you get an option to make it play in one window like quicktime:

    It has a preference to drop frames on slower machines. If it still goes slow, you'd have to get a faster machine or encode it at a lower bitrate to watch it smoothly.
