If you want a news reader try <a href="http://www.thothsw.com/thoth/"; target="_blank">Thoth</a>. It's a little clunky to get used to but it is great. OS X and 9.0 (carbon).
Mail is a *gasp* e-mail client, not a news client!
I've had bad experiences with Thoth and prefer <a href="http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=13571&db=mac"; target="_blank">MT-NewsWatcher</a>. It's a little buggy at times, but I think the overall experience is a cleaner and much better than Thoth.
