Windoes File Server
Hi all
I am looking to set up a system so all my data (photos, music.. etc) is properly backed up. Now my work has offered me an old Dell PIII 833MHz tower with Win XP Pro so I have decided to buy 2 250GB SATA HDDs and a RAID 10 Card. With this I will Mirror the 2 hard drives in the windows box (This will be my Back up solution).
At home my system is basically an iMac G5 1GB Tiger.
What I see my setup being is like this
iMac G5 << >> Netgear Wireless Router ----- Netgear Modem ---- Internet
----- Dell Win XP Pro
<< >> = Wireless
------ = Wired
So I have this mirrored Windows Box and because it has mirrored hard drives I want it to be the only place I keep my data (i.e it is kept there and backed up there). My question is will this be possible? Will I be able to copy my music there and set my iTunes to be my music directory on the windows box (and stream the music) similarly with iPhoto?
If I ever need to administer the windows box I could use "Remote Desktop Connection". I like the idea of this but am not sure if is possible, is there anything I need to do or know?? Is this possible? Will there be any problems?
Thanks in advance
