iis there a way to name the photos in iphoto so you can use that serch bar at the bottom?

What exactly is the problem? The search bar seems to pick up text in the title, comments and keywords. Typing in the search box will result in only images that contain the text you type in one of those fields being displayed. To change the title of a photo, select it, then select the title in the information box at the lower left (click on the circle with an i in it if the information box isn't displayed), then type whatever you want the title to be.
