bootcamp help

i installed bootcamp with a normal XP disk. it didnt have SP2 which could be why the installer didnt work. i lost OSX, not a big deal because i have stuff backed up but im stilling wondering if you really NEED SP2. it says its a requirement in the bootcamp installer though. any help? thanks
