AOL and Microsoft Word

As of Sunday, I am unable to get Word attachments successfully sent thru AOL mail via its browser. I get an error message that the message was aborted and that AOL 's server has picked up a virus in my attachment. The problem occurs in my dial-up and satellite computer modems ( both using 10.3.9) but not in my cable modem (also 10.3.9) Tech Support at AOL says there is a virus for the Mac that does this and that I am infected, and recommends Macafee. I am a bit dubious, and have not seen anything that refers to this problem. I am going to check these computers w/Virex. Has anyone heard of anything along these lines?
