Logic Board Question

I gave my old iBook to my brother in law and he wants to try fixing it. I was told that the logic board was shot. So he wants to buy a logic board on eBay and try fixing it himself. So the question is, are there any things that we should be aware of about this?

Particularly, are logic boards specific to the computer? I was thinking that if I have an 800Mhz iBook G4, I'd need a logic board from the exact same model. Not for instance, a board from a 1.4 Ghz iBook G4.

Thanks for any help = )

I had an old imac that had a bad logic board. I ended up buying a used one, and removed its logic board for mine.

what I did was look for the exact same model I had (mine was a 800Mhz imac) it was cheaper for me to find a full unit used than to buy a new logic board.
