OS X Server Install

I'm trying to install OS X Server from a backup DVD (I lost the original in a move) and I am unable to get my G4 MDD to boot from it. The disk is OK because I tested it on my laptop and it booted off it just fine, it is a DVD-R maybe my DVD drive is not able to boot off a DVD-R. Any thoughts on the matter?

    Did the system originally come with a DVD drive or did you add it yourself?

    It came with a Combo Drive, CD Burner and DVD reader
