FireWire 800 solutions

in Current Mac Hardware edited January 2014
I currently have a FireWire800 hard drive that I use extensively with my Powerbook I also have FireWire DAW Interface, 4 USB devices and occasionally I bring in a second FireWire device and daisy chain it.

All this plugs into my Powerbook when I record audio. I use every single port.

I have been toying with the idea of an iMac purchase but I'd like to keep my HD FireWire800 is there any way to do that? Any sort of card or whatever? Should I just save up for a Mac Pro and wait for them to come out?

I'm pretty sure you could get a cable with FW400 on one end and FW800 on the other and get things working that way. I do this from time to time in the other direction (plug in FW400 devices to a FW800 port).

I can't think of any way to add a FW800 port to an iMac.
