As putting the MacBook to sleep kills WiFi - I find myself having to leave the MacBook open all day long and sliding something so that it doesn't shut totally therefore going to sleep... The MacBook LOVES dust... I've never had any piece of electronic that loves dust so much...

Why do you need it to be connected to the internet 24/7? It's a laptop. If you want something that's going to be on all day, then you should've gotten an iMac.

Your comment here makes no sense whatsoever.

Edit: Alright I understand that portable computers generally aren't connected 24/7 because they are frequently transported from one location to another. Okay. But even if you generally dont venture outside the house much with your laptop, it still has a lot of benefits over a desktop.

I'm not quite sure what the problem is. My MacBook stays on all the time (set never to sleep in the Energy Saver Preference pane and the screen to go black after 20 minutes) and there's never that much dust on it.

Putting the system to sleep idles the processor and hard drive. Of course it's not going to maintain the WiFi connection! My car won't continue to drive at 60 MPH if I shift it into neutral (at least, not for very long it won't). Unless you mean that it doesn't automatically reconnect when you wake from sleep despite telling it otherwise - then you'd have a problem.

If you need the Internet connection on when you're not using the system, go to System Preferences and then choose Energy Saver. You can tell the system not to go to sleep by itself when you're on AC power, for example, and instead just turn the screen off.
