I just wanted to bring to people's attention that don't already know about ASM. ASM is the reincarnation of the application switcher menu. It works well and you can customize it straight down to how big you want the icons to be in the switcher menu.

To download ASM right now here is the URL - <a href="http://download.com.com/3000-2234-7678571.html?tag=lst-0-1"; target="_blank">http://download.com.com/3000-2234-7678571.html?tag=lst-0-1</a>;

Frankly, I don't see he need for this product unless you're hellbent on making OSX more like OS9.

ASM rules, I love it and use it. If you don't want it don't use it.

Well, I love the dock but I find ASM very useful--it sits up on the upper right just like another menu extra, I can quickly see what all is running if my dock is hidden or iam using a a backdrop that doesn't show the arrows well...but its best feature is that I can configure it to have a "Hide app" and "Hide all" feature. That's what really makes it useful to me.

    Cmd + H = Hide Current App

    SHIFT + CMD + H = Hide Others

Or Option + Click the Dock Icons

Shift-Cmd-H doesn't work in most apps. OmniWeb is a nice exception.

ASM + an app-switcher like HotApp is a rockin' combination. I punch F1 for Finder, F5 for OmniWeb, F6 for Entourage, etc., and all the other apps' windows hide automatically. The window clutter of an un-enhanced system drives me crazy. And I don't like having to mouse over to the dock just to switch apps.

Try CMD-Tab and CMD-Shift-Tab. Works well and doesn't require the mouse.

    Keyboard shortcuts are key.

Cmd-Tab and Cmd-Shift-Tab on OS X are crappy, since they cycle through apps in the order they're listed in your Dock. That usually means many many more keystrokes than necessary to get to the app I want. (Note that with OS X's superb memory management, I normally have upwards of 15 apps open at once). It also means you have to remember the relative order of apps in the Dock — I can't tell you how many times I've hit Cmd-Tab when I really wanted Cmd-Shift-Tab. Ugh.

Another neat feature of HotApp is that it has a setting (Option-Tab) for a Windoze-like toggle between the last 2 apps used: Very useful.

Apple really needs to bring back the Hot Keys functionality of OS 9.
