Windows Friendly Attachments

Perhaps someone can help me with this...

When I send emails from Mail to people on Windows machines (usually using Outlook) and I attach a photo, they always complain that I didn't "attach the photo". This is dumb because I obviously attached the photo since they can see it in the window with the email, but for some reason it doesn't show up in the attachments list and they can't figure out how to save the photo I sent them.

Now, I have set Mail under EDIT>ATTACHMENTS>WINDOWS FRIENDLY ATTACHMENTS (it is enabled) so I'm wondering what I can do to make the attachments show up properly for them, or is it possible?

I'm pretty sure they can just right-click on the photo to save it, but that seems like too much to understand sometimes...

I always wonder what that feature did, and why it's even an option (seems like the kind of thing that actually shouldn't be an option.)

I have sent plenty of attachments from a Mac to a Windows computer via email WITHOUT using Windows Friendly Attachments without any problems. The reason however lies in the compression of the attachments. Mail rarely compresses any attachments, and the Windows Friendly Attachments feature is to at least try to ensure that the files are not compressed in a way that is not recognizable by windows computers. The main culprit of all problems with mac to windows attachments on the windows side is Outlook and Outlook Express.

You have stupid friends. If an image displays within the body of a received message, the image is attached--no if's, no and's, no but's. Your friends' installations of Outlook have no way of knowing that which messages came from Macs and do not give them special handling. My suggestion for you is to show your friends the location of the little paper clip icon for messages in Outlook's Inbox.

Ya, I have the feeling I'll have to walk them through this. I tell them "if you can see the photo in the email then it is attached" but they tell me it isn't. Sigh. Why must mac users suffer on account of windows users?

Anyway, just to clarify, one of these "stupid friends" is my mom. I know you didn't intend any disrespect, just thought I'd let you know.
