eMac not reading DVDs (has a DVD reader). Simply spitting them out
hey all,
here's my computer:

Machine Model
tPowerMac6,4
CPU Type
tPowerPC G4 (1.1)
Number Of CPUs
t1
CPU Speed

L2 Cache (per CPU)
t512 KB

running OS X 10.4.5
whenever i insert a DVD (film or data), it spins around for about a minute, sounding like it's going to load, before it automatically ejects it. Previously i used to be able to load them without troubles.
Does anyone know what's going on? Or has anyone seen this before?

Sounds like your drive is shot. Maybe try a lens cleaning kit? Or perhaps pony up $50 for a new drive and maybe 3 or 4 times that in labor?
One last check is if your system disc is dvd format (10.4 is), try booting from it. If your problem is software then it should boot up no problem. If your drive is shot, it won't.

it seems to be aimed at DVD players rather than comuter DVD drives, but they're all the same, so it should be fine, right?

ok. i've got a DVD lens cleaning disc. It has a little brush attached to the disc, is this going to be safe to pop in my computer?
