I just picked up a used 12" 1ghz iBook on eBay for $450. The auction did not list any problems with it, just some light scratches on the bottom of the case. The guy I bought it from also has a 14 day exchange warranty in case of DOA. I've read about logic board failures since I started looking into buying an iBook and was wondering if symptoms are apparent immediately or if they show up at random. And are the failures due to abuse or are they mearly acts of god?

Thanks.

I'm not totally sure, but off the top of my head I don't think those models of ibooks had a known logic board issue. It was 700 and 800 Mhz G3 ibooks. I owned one, and had it crap out on me. Apple fixed it up lickety split though

If however, your ibook is part of the known "bad batches" apple fixes it for free.

That puts my mind at ease. I'll put in my order for more memory and a sleve for it then. Hopefully they will all arrive at the same time.
