Would it be a good idea to get a MacBook from the Apple Refurbished store online? The price is nice, I'm just not so sure of the quality. Would it have scratches or anything on the outside? Are those MacBooks the problem ones that have been returned? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Al the reports that I have heard over the years (and there are many) from people getting the refurbs have been very positive. In fact, it seems as if there is hardly ever a problem report on the refurbs - maybe that is because they are individually tested or something.

No reports of cosmetic problems either.

    They have the full warranty.

I don't think we have any way of knowing, but if they are, they don't seem to have a significant incidence of problems after the refurbishment. My guess is that most of them are just returns that happened within the 14-day "return for any reason" period - by law, these cannot be sold as new so they go under the term "refurbished".

I've purchased their refurbished machines in the past and they've been indistinguishable from brand-new ones. In fact, I'm awaiting a refurbed Macbook as I type this and I've got 2GB of RAM just waiting to stuff in it.

I think sometimes it could be better to buy refurbished items for the sole reason that a tech has specifically and personally checked the system out whilst you cannot really say that about ones sold in shops.

Since you have the normal warranty & can buy xtended you won't really have much of a problem. You can always ask prior to order regarding cosmetic damages and by law they must let you know.

If you don't mind knowing that someone else has used your new machine prior to you then I would definetly go for it. Put it this way if their quality control was that every Apple computer gets checked by a Tech you would be guaranteed that the system would be quite good considering it has personally been tested, well your refurb would be tested.
