Sound no longer working on browsers - help!

Apparently one of these third party programs on OSX killed the sound my browsers (Safari, Camino) emit on my MacBook, although all other sounds work fine.

I did a search and there were two solutions: use GarageBand to automatically fix it, or adjust the Output settings in Audio MIDI Setup.

However:

It's not there anymore!

Help!

Once you do that, under Audio Output -> Format:, make sure you set 44.1 kHz, not 96.

    That... didn't work either.

Apparently after doing a search, it turns out this was caused by Audacity, which isn't universal... need to do a Disk Utility Permissions Verify, but valid packages found.

All I did was start up Garage Band and then shut it down. This fixed my problem which was with no audio in Flash & Quicktime (inside and outside Safari). Did you try this? Did it not work?

More specific, start up Garage Band and then quit Garage Band.
