New Flat iMac will look like this

Just how the original was a derivative of the Power Macintosh G3 All-in-One, so will the new flat screen iMac be a derivative of the The 20th Anniversary Macintosh. IMHO.

I've heard that's it's "unique" and slightly "odd". I guess it might be a like it or hate it.

Not exactly good news if Apple is betting everything on the new iMac.

I hope *I* hate it at first glance... I really thought Apple was DOOMED when the iMac was rolled out onto the stage... Then again so did a LOT of Mac faithfull... In fact if I HATED the 1st iMac and it sold so well and got tons of great press then I hope I DETEST the LCD version!

That's not a TAM, is it? Or is it what you think the iMac will look like?

I'd go with a whitish glossy finish myself though.

It sure looks like a TAM to me. I also think the white glossy look would be cool looking.

It based on a TAM, but the real TAM looks like this:

    That's a good mock-up, though.

It's not a mock up. It's an Apple protoype from the Sparticus project which eventually became TAM.

I think I like the prototype better than the actual TAM.

It's in a book called Apple Design. If you haven't got it you should get it. It's a fantastic book.

Some idiot from San Diego or somewhere started a thread about 3-4 weeks ago where he said - get this - that he wondered if the TAM could be the basis of a new LCD iMac.

    Fool.

He liked the vertically-oriented optical drive tray, with all the "guts" down BELOW the screen (as opposed to BEHIND). He thought this would keep thickness down, AND help raise the screen up higher, to eye-level (the current iMac is dying for a stack of phone books).

He even included a mock-up that, if I remember correctly, got lots of praise and agreement. Nearly everyone seemed to be in agreement with this guy.

His name escapes me at the moment.

    Ahem...
