Nano - What can Apple add?

Given the small size of the nano, it would seem that Apple is limited in what they can do aside from adding more space.

My own suggestions-

1. Go sligthly smaller so it will fit in the express card slot.

2. Add home on iPod feature that auto syncs to hard drive.

3. Bluetooth for wireless headphones

4. Serve as conduit to iChat via bluetooth

5. Functions to make it act as an apple remote (maybe via bluetooth).

6. Maybe a popout USB connector to make it more usable as thumb drive.

Adding video seems a little pointless, but it probably wouldn't take a lot of processing power to produce those really small resolutions so maybe they will do it just for fun. Not sure if they could manage a phone in one either.

Any other ideas?

i doubt they'd ever include bluetooth headphones. i dont know about you, but i wouldnt wear buds with an AA battery dangling from them.

making it video compatable would make the two lines too simular. right now the iPod lines appeal to a pretty diverse demographic.

i like the idea of the popout usb. the iPod has gradually become more flexible when it comes to external hard drive (still not as flexible as competitors where u drag n drop music and have access to songs without software). but i think i'm right in saying that even as flush as the apple usb cable is, it's still thicker than a nano.

i think bluetooth on iPods is the way to go. being able to change your library from 30feet away would be a great advantage. it would also make sharing music easy (i know apple would never make it feesable to send someone a song directly, but theres always hacks n flashing the firmware)

other than BT, i think the nano is pretty much as good as its gonna get. if you want video, you get an iPod. if you want a larger HD, you get an iPod. radio has always been a 50/50 thing. some ppl see it as pointless. others would chip in a little extra if you could get it.

What would that add? You could change the connector to fit the ExpressCard one, but then you're destroying the accessory market. Or you could add an ExpressCard adapter with a Dock connector sticking out, but then there really isn't an advantage over USB 2. Plus, only the MacBook Pro comes with ExpressCard, and while I'd love to see Apple include it on, say, the MacBook and the iMac, I don't think so.

Yeah, that would be neat, but the recent Macs all already come with a remote.

since when did Apple ever care about resellers or the "accessory" market?

As flash becomes more capacious I can really see the attractiveness of having your main home folder reside on the nano and simply shuttling it from one mac to another (home and office, for example).

Pop it in - it recharges and syncs.

Pop it out - access your media files

    Repeat at other mac.

As for making it fit in an express slot, I'm personally uncomfortable with having my active hold folder dangling via USB while I use it (especially on a laptop).

I was struggling to come up with any other feature here. I could only imagine somehow having the audio being broadcast directly to your wireless headphones or maybe via the nano. Lame idea, really. Only makes sense if nano becomes a phone and you want to use VOIP.

And no place to put it on a laptop - enter the express card slot.

why can't the nano integrate a portable safari browser and sinc with .mac so you can keep your bookmarks and some other stuff. i use a flash to keep my portable firefox. then i plug into any computer and bingo i'm stealth and have my stuff. as far as a usb connector, they have some that are built into a sd card, you fold it to make the connector available. i think sandisk does this. it could even be slide out. zune won't move into this flash based market i don't think, but nano has be become more flexible to keep the market growing. bluetooth would help, so it could connect to your car system
