Headline News... WTF?!?
okay, first disclaimer, i have not had full cable in over three years (just didn't use it to its fullest, with work keeping myself and my wife out of the house over 12 hours a day), but "back in the day, i used to like CNN's Headline News. It was like how i could watch ESPN's SportCenter over and over and over and over again for some damn reason.
But, now I have cable in all its "glory" again, and, well, what the f%#$ happened to Headline News? Or shall I call it the Glenn Beck/Nancy Grace Not-So-Funtime-Network? Are these folks attempting to capitalize on the sensationalized news craze a la Fox News, or the tongue-in-cheek "news" of The Daily Show and Colbert Report? I'm not sure which, because I can't actually keep the television tuned onto them (especially that scowling Nancy Grace) for more than three minutes to really discern "do they actually think they're funny?" (that's directed more at Glenn Beck than Grace, though Grace has attempted humor in the past, with disastrous results). I guess they're not new -- Chris Matthews has been yelling into the camera for years, but being on networks I usually don't get, I only saw the occasional clip and could easily ignore his schtick.
Anyway, it's absolutely surreal to see these jokers actually with network shows. Maybe it's been a good thing I've been relying on newspapers, radio and the internet the past three years for news instead.
