My G4 17in just went to sleep, and when I woke it back up the backlite does not work. Restarted a few times and that didnt help. Is there a button, or button combnation that mite have gotten pushed that turns the backlite off? How hard is this to fix, and what will I need? Ive had this thing less then 2 months now. Any insite would be greatly appricated. Thanks!

I have read it could be the inverter. Any one know of a diagram on how to replace or any other possible things it could be. I want to make sure before shelling out 80 dollars.

    Thank you

    nascarnate326,

Hate to be a barer of bad news, but you might be hosed.

My TiBook screen bit the dust last year, cost me $600 to have it replaced at techrestore.com. (they're pretty good, BTW)

Connect an external screen, to see if you're getting a vid signal, if so, you might be SOL.

Sorry, I remember how I felt.

    Good luck.

[Edit] Oh, you might try booting in open firmware and type: "reset-nvram" . But do that only if the external doesn't work.

I'm assuming you've already tried to zap PRAM?

Here's how to reset the PRAM and NVRAM: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238

You're looking for a convertor that looks like this:

Most video cards sold today that have DVI out come with an adaptor, maybe you can borrow one from a friend?

benzene is correct about PRAM and PMU.

I would do this before opening your case and messing with the PMU button.

To boot in open firmware, start up and hold down "cmd, opt, o, f" (all four keys together).

When you get the firmware interface up, type "reset-nvram" and hit return. It should restart after that. And yes, you should be able to get a DIV-VGA adapter.

    Good luck!
