Since it doesn't cost much more than the Core Duo and offers a fair amount of additional performance, it would be the perfect way to justify the price difference between the low and high end macbooks....

let's see this tomorrow....

does anyone think we will? (i would also be okay if they jumped to core 2 duo across the line tomorrow in order to up the hype on 64 bit)

I highly doubt you'll see the Core 2 Duo in the MacBook before the MacBook Pro. That's just me though.

Of course not but it is possible that they will both see an upgrade at the same time?

Possible, yeah. But I don't think the MacBook will be going C2D just yet. I think the top of the line Merom chips will go to the MacBook Pro either tomorrow or in Paris next month (would actually be able to ship then). Then MAYBE the lower end Merom chips will make their way to the MacBook at the same time.
