God damnit Apple; way to ruin the WWDC Monday's of university students everywhere.

And let me guess, Paris has been bumped back four months this year too? /sigh

Haha, damn right. I'm not going to uni until I get my MBP, and I don't buy into that "get it now if you need it" shit either.

They wouldn't use a keynote to merely update the processor of an iMac or MacBook pro.

I agree with you. It will probably be a "Tues morning" announcement. Maybe tomorrow, but probably in a couple of weeks.

I'd like to think announcing that the whole line was now 64 bit would be a useful keynote moment, but none the less, I don't care where it happens so long as it happens soon. The only comforting part about keynotes is that you know something you've been waiting for will more than likely be announced there. I hate the idea of waiting for a refresh with such uncertainty. I've gotta bloody budget here, Apple.

I doubt like hell it'll be this Tuesday, though. Apple's gonna want to leave that delightfully prominent "Mac Pro" image on their front page for longer than 24 hours.

Also somewhat displeasing as that if it's not at an event, it's unlikely to be a MBP case redesign, as has been rumoured. Maybe we will have to wait until Paris for that?

As nice as getting a magnetic latch would be, I don't see how much prettier they could REALLY make the powerbook. Besides which, if I waited until the new case design and Santa Rosa to buy, I'd miss an entire school year where I need a laptop. It's just not worth waiting THAT long for something that'll be fast outdated anyway.

I'm waiting for the Meron update and that's about it.

I hope we see the Merom move before Paris. End of the month would be sweet.

Even if there was an announcement yesterday regarding Merom, products with the chip won't ship until end of August begining of September. Clam down. Apple can't work magic here.

But a Conroe product could ship before the end of the month, and it would be nice to see Apple do this, but I'm not optimistic about it. PowerPC pessimism and Apple's general "slow" reaction to market forces tell me that Apple will release 2 products at Paris, a new iMac and MacBook Pro, maybe a new iPod as well. October will bring us a new Mini, November a new MacBook. Minor software releases along the way as well which leads back into a new cycle in January. It would be nice if Apple keep up the pace to that of the rest of the computer industry. I know that they want to keep the "excitement" around by spreading out product announcements, but the systems need to see updates when the chips are updated and supplies available to meed the projected demand. Save the software announcements and iPod releases to fill the void, and expand the digital devices to connect to the "Hub" out beyond the iPod so that they have more products to update between the computer updates.

I don't think we will see a case re-design until Intel releases Robson. With Robson they will have 802.11n, NAND caching, and I think some advances in the chip-set. From the standpoint of the average user, and the media, the conroe/memrom jump isn't news-worthy enough to justify a redesign.

I believe it's all about Core 2 supplies. Apple isn't going to release the Core 2 versions until they have a good supply of the chips on hand - they certainly don't want to switch production back and forth between Core chips because of a lack of Core 2 chips. It may be the timing is right for a Paris announcement, and it may be that Apple starts feeding the Core 2 chips into production even before an announcement. When there is an abundance of Core 2 chips available I believe that Apple will switch the entire line over.

I just left Apple's site looking for the dates of the Paris Show. They are not there? There is a show listed in Sept, and one in Oct. but no Paris show. When is it and has it been confirmed? Is Apple making us sweat because of the new French DRM laws?

    Nevermind I found it.

Why on earth did you think there would be a MB update at the developer conference? Don't you read what we tell you?

I was looking at a Dell Core 2 Duo desktop yesterday that had an estimated ship date of the 11th. I realize that the laptop version of that chip is not shipping in volume yet, but the desktop is as I understand it. That is unless Intel has not put Apple on high enough of a priority for their chips and has locked them out at this early stage in the Conroe release, and I just hope that this is not the case.
