By creating Time Machine, which just sounds and looks increadable, did Apple eliminate the need for most of the .Mac features?

One of the big .Mac selling points is the Backup software and the online storage. Why would you need to run backup software or store things online if you can just go back in time (what a great name) and retreve them?

But they said you could keep it on the same hard drive if needed. Think about it, how many home users are going to buy a second hard drive for thier Mini/Notebook/iMac just for backups? You saw the statistics, Time Machine won't require it. I guess I'll just have to wait till Leopard comes out to see the specifics. It's a really cool idea though. Now I wonder how it works with secure delete...
