Anyone know whether Apple is going to move to LED Backlight displays for their MacBooks? If heat has been a problem, why hasn't Apple made the move? Sony has a couple out now. LED's are supposed to be cooler, better colors and easier on the eyes (no flourescents!)

If Apple did it, I might actually be able to convince my boss to get me one!

Don't forget, they use less power.

Right, and I also understand they don't contain mercury, which flourescent backlights also contain, if I'm correct. So, it seems they also have an environmental advantage as well. So, seeing as Apple is a trend setter, what are they waiting for? Is it cost?

Since when is LED cooler than the current COLD cathode tube in the current lcd, to have LED bright enough for backlighting a large screen, it'd be so hot, or you'll need so many of them that the advantages to the tubes just isn't there... YET.

    But yeah, bring them on.

They also won't fade and the screen brightness should be more uniform.

I wonder why they haven't done this sooner. Would it increase the thickness of the Apple laptop display?

They already use LEDs in traffic lights now for the same reasons - brighter, longer lasting etc.
