I'd buy one. It'd have to be something special to beat some of the stuff that Nokia and Sony Ericsson are coming out with though.

    What would a cell phone do for Apple? <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

But that's probably what they'd call it since everything has to start with an i.

Funny that the address is a .org though. If you ping <a href="http://www.apple.com"; target="_blank">www.apple.com</a> you get the same IP address resolved as if you ping <a href="http://www.iphone.org"; target="_blank">www.iphone.org</a> 17.254.0.91 so it isn't like some knucklehead just bought the url and redirected it to apple's site. Of course I remember hearing about apple buying up TONS of i* dns names when the iMac was introduced. I could be wrong though.

I believe iPhone is already a registered patent (not by Apple though).

My only problem with this type of wireless products is this - are they intended only for the US? or Europe? Will Apple have deals with wireless services from all over the world to let the iPhone work just about anywhere? Or do they have to hope that they'll be supported by third party companies?

Or if they use a large network such as Omnisky, what about all the consumers who do not live in those covered areas? I can see many people not being too happy. A lot of major areas are covered, but there are entire states that are not covered.

    <a href="http://www.omnisky.com/discover/pricing_coverage/coverage_map.jhtml"; target="_blank">OmnySky's coverage area (for example - there are other companies)</a>

I just don't see Apple releasing a cell phone or even anything like the "Danger" product that MOSR talks about.
