we have a dell laptop and pc tower w/motorola card that both connect wirelessly through our neighbors secured network. i bought my iMac today and immediately picked up the signal. I put in the password but wouldn't let me connect. Do I need that spaceship-looking airport base?

please help.

No. There's something else going on that'ss keeping you from connecting. I connect my pBook to various non-mac WiFi networks all over the world. Never had a problem connecting to the WiFi network, but occasionally have to call the front-desk to figure out the right username/password to get internet access.

Sorry i couldn't be of more help with the info you provided, but an Apple branded base station is NOT required.
