According to Notebook Review from Reg Hardware's news article which can be found here, http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3105, both the MacBook Pro AND MacBook are expected to ship with the Core 2 Duo (Merom) processors inside them. As stated in the article, "Taiwanese contract manufacturer Asustek will push out MacBooks with the new CPU - Quanta is said to manufacture the MacBook Pro. Together, Asustek and Quanta will churn out 200,000 - 300,000 Mac laptops. If the news is true, I'll be one of the first to purchase the newly released MacBooks We will all wait and see what Apple intends to do in the coming weeks!!

I wish Apple would keep core duo in the macbook and drop the prices a little. A consumer laptop doesn't need core 2 processor IMO.

remember, the core 2 duo processor isn't actually THAT much more powerful than the core duo, onlt 5 - 15% in some tasks. I'm soon going to be starting a course on mechanical engineering, that involves lots of 3d rendering and the macbook pro is a little out of my price range... You gotta remember that people dont have infinate funds and just buy the things they need, people will tend to buy the best thing they can whilst justifying the need for it. I would get a macbook pro if i could afford it, but i cant, and i think its the same with a lot of people. Also, intel might not continue producing the core duo processors for much longer, and Apple cant afford to stay that far behind. Therefore, i think its likely that they will bump the processor up a notch, just so they dont fall behind.
