So if you take a look at the Mac Pro, you'll notice its slots for an optical drive are quite small. in fact, they are so small, Apple is using this optical drive. what im wondering is, if drives like this wont work in the Mac Pro, where do we get the ones with the thinner tray?

Most optical drives have a removable bezel on the front of the disc tray. With this removed, the tray should fit through the Mac Pro's front grill. That is... assuming the overall drive dimmensions are to DIN specs.

Oh well that's handy. I've never noticed the removable bezel.

What are DIN specs? Standard measurements for parts peripherals in a case?

Most desktop optical drives and car head units fit in what is referred to as a "single DIN" opening. (180mm x 50mm)

DIN is a german standards organization...
