Sweeet. Why won't Apple buy these dudes and build it in?

Have you tried this, Wilco? I'll be trying this on my new iMac. (When I get it [when I order it {When it is released}])

Seriously, this was the only minus when it comes to the Intel switch. Any thoughts on how this runs so fast? Is it just the vast superiority of the current hardware?

Because OS 9 is officially dead. The more they support something, the longer people will use it. The same thing happened with floppies. Apple just dropped them and I don't know any Mac users who use them now at all. They all have far superior USB pen drives or SD cards. However, I still know PC users who use floppies. Some things are just for the best.

But it doesn't harm to let people keep using OS 9, does it?

.... but it doesn't make Apple any money either. Besides, I'm sure Apple was happy to get rid of the ton of code of MacOS 9 and the instability of MacOS 9. Apple wants their users using MacOS X.

Nope it doesn't, and that's why this solution exsists. If they build it in, it have to have support; apple doesn't have the desire to spend to money/time/effort supporting it.

How much does Apple spend supporting Classic on PowerPC right now?? Can you say "very little"? Any newbie is not going to have any Classic apps anyway, and people with Classic apps will have a better idea of how stuff works and if Apple built it in but refused to support OS 9 Apps, they would be more understanding.

@Leonard: Apple doesn't care how much code or instability OS 9 has, they're not developing the OS, they're just creating an emulator for the system.

I'm trying this on a Macbook with 2 gigs of RAM.

Once I press the start button I get an error message that says "this startup disk will not work on this Maintosh model. use the latest Installer to update this disk for this model."

What now? Has anyone gotten this to work? I'd much rather run OS 9 than Windows on my Macbook.

btw, I'm using OS 9.2.1 as my startup disk.

    Can anyone help?

I've got as far as downloading the Mac OS ROM Update, however neither of my machines support the Classic environment. Does anyone have a way of actually accessing the ROM file within the Tome? TomeViewer is also Classic only, which isn't particularly useful...

    Thanks!

apple should give them what they need to make 9.1, 9.2.1 and 9.2.2 work on it.
