Let's not discount parallel development.
There has been a lot of discussion about whether or not the G5 will debut or whether Apple could double the G4 speed in 6 months.
Let's not discount Steve's desire to screw companies that have screwed him. Apple very easily could have adopted a parallel cpu development program quite a few years ago in order to remove itself from a dependence on MOT. This development could have proceded without MOT knowledge, as well it should, in order to ensure a supply of existing PPC designs to build systems with.
What if MOT is completely in the dark about this parallel development (assuming this occurred), wouldnt the statements lately from MOT about the G4 having plenty of life fit into this? What about the statements on the web about IBM having developed its own generic SIMD unit?
One of the things that caught me by suprise at the last keynote was Steve Jobs almost appologetic encouragement to the employees back at Apple. Something at the end of that keynote told me that they had hoped for something far more significant than what we got.
It is just as likely that Apple has developed a new chip (or a better G4) without MOT knowledge as it is that the Apple Towers will move up a measly 133MHz.
edit: more appropriate thread title.

It's also be rumored that Apple has taken chip into it's own house. Either to speed up the process or to keep it hush hush.
Hope so
