Projector + Mac mini

I recently bought a Toshiba MT200 projector and I'm looking at purchasing a Mac mini after the next rev.

The projector's native resolution is 854x480 pixels and I just wondered, when I connect the Mac mini to it via DVI, will the Mac mini scale the interface to this exact resolution?

Possibly but projectors are weird. I was using one with a Macbook recently and I got an error using resolutions that the projector was supposed to support. I ended up using a low resolution of 800x600. Even at that, the movie I was playing showed noticeable tearing.

Well it works fine with my iBook G4, but obviously that only mirrors the iBook's 4:3 (or whatever ratio it is) rather than filling the full width of the projector's 16:9 widescreen. Just wondered if the mini (because it's not mirroring a screen) would output to the full height and width.

my MacBook only allowed a few resolutions as well for my HDTV. try each resolution at the lower refresh rates (60-75)

the biggest i was able to get was like 1000x700ish. at 70Hz (i think)

You may find using SwitchResX helps.

"Advanced features lets you enable more resolutions, or even create new resolutions for your monitor, HDTV, Plasma screen or Video Projector. This advanced feature is very powerful for users requesting complete control over their display resolution."
