Hi guys and girls,

This may have been discussed before, but no search could help so here goes.

I am purchessing a Macbook Pro Core 2 Duo as soon as released.

Since Apple is known to overcharge their RAM modules, I'm considering buying an extra GB of RAM and installing it myself.

Can I do that not being a professional, and would you recomend it at all?

Thanks,

Soeren

    Go to this page http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_cente...directory.html

and watch one of the videos in the lower left under MacBook Pro Memory. Others who have done their own memory should chime in.

Of course, that assumes that there won't be any form factor revisions when Apple released their Core Duo 2.

Damn, that is such an ungainly phrase: "Core Duo 2".

Yeah, luckily Intel heard you and didn't name it that.

    Thanks for the tip!

I know there's a chance Apple will give the Macbook Pro some sort of upgrade, but so far I'm just considering if I should buy it with one or two GB of RAM direct from the Apple Store..

I've heard a lot of good things about OWC as well as Crucial. My only experience with OWC is purchasing a 2GB kit from them for my girlfriend's MB. Unfortunately that RAM seems to have some problems with her computer (causing kernel panics, random shutdowns, etc), but memtest and the Apple Hardware Test don't show any problems with it. So we're getting a replacement from them. Their customer service is very good, but everyone seems to have their own different experiences with them. Personally I'd still rather buy it with the stock RAM (512MB or 1GB) and upgrade it myself to 2GB.

I agree with axc51, upgrading yourself is easy and will cheaper in the long run. Keep in mind that with the MacBook Pro as with the MacBook, upgrading the RAM with an equal sized module will allows you to take advantage of dual-channel memory where both banks of RAM can be addressed at the same time.
