Sharing files from PC to Mac using a crossover cable?

I've searched online, and I've tried too many times with no success, can anyone tell me how to do this? Please, and thank you.

    Set the ip's to be static, and set the same subnets too. the pc shoudl show up under the network icon in the finder.

    I'm not great with PC's, can you clarify what you just stated above?

    How do I set the ip's to be static? And how do I set the same subnets as-well?

    When I followed the steps in the Apple doc.:



    "1. Click the Finder icon in the Dock.

    2.Choose Connect to Server from the Go menu (see Note 1).

    3.In the address field of the Connect to Server dialog, type the URL using this syntax (see Note 3):

    smb://ServerName/ShareName/





    4. Click Connect."



    I get an (Error code -36)

    You need to have a shared folder on the PC.

    I found it helped to turn off any firewalls on the PC to get the PC to show up in the network section.



    I actually didn't manually set IPs nor did I need a crossover cable. If you use DHCP, it auto assigns IPs on the right subnet. All you then have to do is set up shared folders and connect to the machine via the assigned IP or through the network section.
