When I plug the cable into my router, I get no light, and no connection, is there somthing in the OS that I am missing. I set the TCP/IP to "Ethernet" and "Auto DHCP" and nothing happens. The IP says it will be assigned by the server but never does. Any ideas?

Are you using the right Ethernet cable? To check this, hold both ends of the cable, pins up, towards you. If on both connectors the orange, brown, green and blue cables are at the same place, the cable is wired correctly. If the orange/white or orange and green/white or green or blue cables inside one connector is in a different place, then you got the wrong cable.

Or your cable is broken somewhere. Check with a different one.

On the software side, there is nothing more to be configured than the Ethernet settings in the TCP/IP control panel. Just make sure that in your router, the DHCP-server function is enabled (which should be the case per default). And you're using the LAN-ports of your router (not the WAN port), right?
