i noticed this too. but i don't think it's necessarily related to anything from the iPod (or any piece of hardware). There was probably a small problem with the software update server.
My update is also not working so may be some thing is happening... may be a free OS 10.2 upgrade bawhaha just joking.
Yeah, I noticed the same thing this morning. I could be due to a server glitch/load problem or to updating the server. I think most people realize the possibilities. Since it can occur due to an update to the server, it could be a sign of a soon-to-be-released update from Apple, and the iPod firmware update is one that pops to my mind also. It is the first week of August...
Although, it could just be Apple tweaking their servers to charge us more for .Mac...er...I mean to make their service better or fix something.
(waits for everyone to jump my ass with flames...)
maybe they are releasing iChat or iCal as an early update to get people hyped on 10.2....nahhh, ipod update or server glitch...g

It won't be iCal or iChat, since they require 10.2.
Hopefully it'll be the iPod update, I can't wait to use the clock!

This must be a server problem, due to the fact that I have tried the updater on multiple machines on multiple providers, all with the same result.
