Who is using Chimera 0.4 as there default browser?

After trying the horrible 0.2x builds, I was reluctant to take the latest version for a test drive, but I must say I'm impressed.

I haven't used it enough to test java and plugin support, but if these check out okay, Mozilla will immediately be deleted from hard drive.

Chimera not only offers faster rendering than Mozilla, it also has the best user interface I've seen in a browser. It's fast, it's usable, and it's Aqua.

Has anyone else considered ditching IE, Mozilla, or OW for Chimera?

For me, only one thing is missing and that's password management like it works in Mozilla. Once that's done, I'll switch. I'm perfectly happy with what it can do now.

i downloaded 0.4 and its now my default browser, on occasion i will use OW and IE but barely ever anymore. 0.4 replaced OW as my default browser.

i think 0.4 is very well done, beautiful and works great. hopefully it will only gets better from here on out.

    It's now my default browser.

If they keep it this simple, and just add invisible improvements, it'll stay that way. Crash quotient is definitely low enough.

Tabbed browsing + speed + looks = killer.

There's no way I can use even OmniWeb now I've discovered Aqua tabbed browsing (Mozilla being vile IMHO).

Chimera comes a very close second for me. OmniWeb is still my default, but I do rather frequently try out Chimera.

Embedded Flash and QuickTime are both still a bit wonky and painfully slow to redraw on scrolling. Embedded Flash content is also buggy when scrolling in that sometimes it will keep drawing over the same spot on the screen even though the coordinates on the page have moved off the screen.

The lack of services is really killing me in Chimera. I've found that I've come to depend probably too much on the spelling service. After making a long post like this in OmniWeb, I simply glance up and quickly scroll up and down the post looking for those little red underlines to see if I need to make any corrections. In Chimera, I have to either type slower to check my spelling as I go or reread my posts.

Also, some of the niceties of OmniWeb keep me using it as the default. The Download Manager is still the best around. The Network Activity window and Inspector (Show Info) are extremely useful and I *really* miss not having them in Chimera.

Don't take this post the wrong way. I love Chimera too and think It has excellent potential for greatness. It just doesn't have the tools and features yet to make it my default browser. After having used Chimera, though, I squirm at the thought of choosing vanilla old Mozilla over OmniWeb. Ick!

Maybe around 0.7 or later I'll be able to use it full-time...

its my default browser, they need to fix the tabbed browsing though. they shouldnt be centered and they should have a maximum size. and they need to thread it more so that the front tab doesnt pause while the tab in the background is loading.

I've been using Chimera 95 percent of the time for the past couple of months and finally changed my system preferences to make it my default browser today. But I still have OW and IE in my dock next to Chimera for backup.

Chimera kicks other browsers' asses! Lean is mean!

Chimera 0.4 + Jaguar build 6C113 = one fast as hell browsing experience. I have a very fast connection at work which obviously helps, but there ain't no comparison to running Chimera in 10.1.5... Jaguar is definitely faster.

By the way, I recommend doing clean installs when you go to Jaguar.

I guess I can say that Chimera is my default browser in a sense, since it's what I've been using the most on my iBook for the last couple of days. Yet, my 8600 is my main browsing device, so it's really too early to say what I'll settle on for OS X. Chimera is pretty impressive, but I don't know if it's superior to OW. Time will have to tell.

edit: while looking at top, I realized that Chimera continues to utilize the processor while idle, instead of going to sleep. Even though I do like a lot of things about Chimera, this will heavily influence my default browsing choice.

I've got OmniWeb, Internet Explorer, and Chimera/Navigator on my PowerBook.

OmniWeb is still my default, but I've been playing around with Chimera, and it's not to bad. It needs a lot of niceties that the other browsers have before I'll switch, though. And by that time we may have OmniWeb 5.

Internet Explorer is still essential. If a page won't open in any other browser, you can rely on IE to make at least some attempt.

If you want an example, go <a href="http://www.panic.com/audion/"; target="_blank">here</a> and try clicking on some of the magnifying glasses.

Sure, OmniWeb doesn't support those very well, but Mozilla/Chimera renders those draggable elements just fine.
