And will it be before the free nano promo is over? I'm planning to get the MBP 17" and hope and prey that my dream machine doesn't come out in the next year.

Does anyone know if the current MBP will be able to run the new OS? I know "technically? there should be no problem, but I?ve had substantial ?bumps? moving to higher operating systems.

Im on a Power Mac G3 and it runs Tiger just fine. So I think that the old MBP will be able to run Leapord as well, with no "bumps"

Plus, I think the new MBP will come out on the 12th, with maybe a redesigned exterior.

Current MBP's will absolutely be able to run Leopard. A lot of people are saying you won't really notice a difference between the 32 bit MBP (current version) and the 64 bit version (Merom) unless you're using 64-bit apps... and for most of us that won't be for a good while. As for upgrade "bumps," I actually noticed a positive difference in speed going from Panther to Tiger on my iBook G4. So if you mean "bump" in a good way, I hear that! Logic Express seemed to love the upgrade to Tiger. I take immaculate care of my Mac, so I know it wasn't just doing a fresh erase-and-install that did the trick.

Any hopes to see new macbooks with dual layer dvd recorders?

Dual-layer is a distinct possibility - my understanding is that it was only the reliability of dual-layer 9.5mm drives at the time that prevented the MacBook Pro from getting dual-layer recording.

Do you mean I can expect the new macbooks to have them?

As far as I know, currently there is not even the chance of an upgrade option!

This is very bad! Even if I have the money to put one dual layer drive, apple do not allow me! No option.

And all these when pc laptops have standard dual layer drivers for a couple of years.

Something has to be done at last.

Apple should give it as a standard or as an optional.

What do you think the future hold for this?
