3GB RAM & Dual Channel Memory

in Current Mac Hardware edited January 2014
For a number of years now on x86 based machines it has been possible to double the bandwidth to the RAM by putting like memory modules in pairs of supporting RAM slots. I'm sure the Yonah based Macs also supported this. Now by putting a 2GB RAM module and 1GB RAM module in your iMac surely you are halving the memory bandwith over having 2x1GB (or 2x512MB) modules installed? And in the process, slowing down the Mac.

Surely a slight redesign of the iMac would have allowed it to take 2x2GB modules. Have Apple not done this because we may see a new style iMac in January?
