phone-pod-thingy...
First of all... no one else posting here yet...? Is this the Twilight Zone...?
any-hewww...
Based 100% on speculation and numerous assumptions, I want to comment on what *may* be a future Apple product. Let's presume that my interpretation of all the speculation floating-around the inter-web is this:
An iPod-like device that utilizes a similar form-factor to current iPods, but the screen encompasses the ENTIRE face of the product.
The display is capable of touch-sensitive input.
The interface(s) adapt to the use of the item and its orientation; Horizontal for watching video, vertical for iPod music or telephone
Yes, Telephone.
Let's go-forward with the presumption that Apple's phone endeavors are merged with the music/video solution and it *is* this all-in-one unit.
1) I am not a fan of the idea that my communication device is also my entertainment device. I don't want to have to remove my iPod from my SoundDock to answer it as a phone, or need to remove it from the glove-box of my vehicle where the iPod integration access is just to answer it.
2) I have learned (the hard, expensive way) that touch-based interfaces without tactile feedback can become cumbersome and non-intuitive. There is a LOT to be said for the sense of touch and how it reinforces what we see. In-a-pinch... I could dial my Motorolla phone without looking at it - by feel... at night, if I start to fall asleep, I can turn-off my TV just by finding the remote with my eyes-closed and I can feel where the power button is with my finger.
I was unfortunate enough to be one of the suckers... errr... I mean "customers" who purchased a Pronto remote... fully programable, touch-screen remote. Once the novelty wore-off, it became clear that the lack of tactile feedback was a major hinderance in the product's usability. You HAD to look at the screen to do anything (with the exception of the programable "real" buttons).
----
I'll be honest - I will be the first one in-line if Apple comes-up with a phone solution that allows me to tell Verizon to shove their service far into their anal-cavity... I just pray it's not a swiss-army-knife of uses like the rumors imply it will be.
I guess time will tell.

Moving to Future Hardware.
Why not just "pull" the topic until then...?
Anyhow... my feelings on the potential product remain the same.
Peace...

In this case speculation may be rife but it isn't fever pitched.
