I bought a used iMac and I have 2 problems - when I tried to update to 10.2.8 I needed the previous owner's account password which I don't know and now I have to keep resetting because of webpage hangups - I can't get the arrow but just the continuous circular whirl. I don't have the iMac book - could somebody help me ?

You need to get the previous user's password. He should have informed you of what it was when he sold you the system. If you can't get it, you can boot up from the OS X disc and reset the password. To do that, insert the disc while the computer is on, restart, and hold down the C key until you see the Apple logo on the screen. Once the installer comes up, you can go up to the menu and I believe there is a "reset password" option or something similar.

Once you have that and run the updates, let us know if you're still experiencing hanging issues while web browsing. Instead of resetting the machine, hold down Cmd-Option and press Esc - you'll get a window that allows you to force quit applications should they hang up like yours is.

What model is your iMac? I would recommend purchasing a copy of Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger and installing that. Even after you upgrade to 10.2.8, that's quite outdated.
