MacBook

OK, so it seems no MacBook thread has completely addressed the next rev. of the MacBook. I'm surprised at the dearth of speculation.

I'd like to begin with two questions I want to know.

1. Will it get updated integrated graphics? X3000 I think it's called? I'd settle for that. Perhaps it would be cool if the top end Black one gets hardware graphics again, perhaps lowend but still faster than integrated of course. But I would be getting the lowend anyway, and I just want to know if the Intel graphics will get updated and what they'll be.

2. Core 2? It seems like the consensus so far is no. This I don't care about as much, just the graphics.

3. Anyone think they'll drop it back to $999? That sure rolls of the tongue easier and looks a hell of a lot nicer than $1099. Seems like they'll have to.

I can't wait to buy one the second they come out.

Unless Apple wants a 22W northbridge, no. Mobile variant comes in April 2007.

Yea, I've been wondering too where the speculation went for a MacBook update. I'd like to get one soon but would rather get the next update.

It would seem to me that the MBPs are getting an upgrade before the MBs. The specs of the new MBPs will give some clues as to what to expect in the next MB.

Any chance of a larger screen in the next MB?

It would seem the "dearth of speculation" has to do with the fact that the MacBook will follow the MacBook Pro's lead, and unless you know what's going to happen to the MacBook Pro, it's hard to speculate on the MacBook.

I would like to see a 15.4-inch widescreen MacBook...I think Apple is not competing with the 15-inch consumer portable market which is a mistake. $1999 is too expensive for the jump from the $1,299 13-inch MacBook.

the reason apple won't introduce a 15inch dedicated graphics macbook is because it will take away from the macbook pro's market share

well, there are other ways to make MacBook Pro look good,

    include

Blue ray disc (rite now, very expensive)

    nVidia 7600 GT 256/512 MB

    1 GB RAM

Higher HDD (already 7.2 K RPM, only available to MBP)

    ...

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. I find most of the comments about the MacBook revolve around asking for things in the MBP but still having it be the price of the MB. Hence, the dearth. Still, a longer batter life would take priority for me. MB's are, for me, like iPods -- take 'em anywhere, mess around with them. Longer batter life is a must for that. Otherwise, do what you can to keep the price down so it's an "entry level" (if that's the right term for something Apple makes that's better than anyone else's) machine. Super-hot graphic cards, shmaphic cards. Get a MBP. But then, that's just my opinion; I go with the MBP's, and save these for my son.

I don't think the 7600 is much faster than the X1600. Also, NVIDIA chips are generally really hot... they're not really laptop friendly.

Blu-Ray (or HD-DVD) is probably going to be in all computers by the end of 2007.

To be honest, I don't think the MacBook's even going to get Merom any time soon, I think they're gonna hold it back to increase the value of the MacBook Pro. I think they just had to get it a Yonah to complete the Intel transition timely and lose some profit margin's for a bit.

I had to get the MacBook Pro for the graphics card, but I definately felt gipped out of that extra $1000 for it. There's not enough differentiation between the two lines.

My understanding though was that the Merom chip cost the same as the Yonah chip. If this is true then why wouldn't Apple switch both the MB and MBP to Merom - otherwise people will be holding out buying a MB until this transition occurs.

Meroms cost what core duos cost when the core duos were released. It's safe to say that the core duos are now cheaper.

The Merom chip costs now what the Yonah chip did.

The Yonah chip is cheaper now because it's no longer Intel's top-performing chip.

I do not see any price cuts in Intel website, i think they priced it same and will keep the price same to make PC vendors to move the Notebook line to C2D to asap ...

it is the same like Pentium D was slashed prices less than P4 to make the technology switch ... otherwise PC vendors will be selling P4s for another 3 or 4 years ...

the last price cut was 27/Jul unless they have two different prices one on website and one for vendors ...

i personally would like to see an MBP with the same design/finish as the black macbook, in 15.4" of course - but i'm a pismo owner, so i would say that, wouldn't i?? whilst the mbp metal exterior still looks sleek, the design is perhaps a little tired, imo. i'm not really a fan of the 'metallic' keyboard look, tho' usability-wise it is fine. its a great product tho', this is just nitpicking really... i'll be waiting for HD to come to the mbp before i upgrade to either mb or mbp anyhow... (edit: touch wood!)

Is it coming out soon? I need a MacBook for lectures (I have a Mac Pro but uhh... well I can just imagine lugging it to class LOL), so should I get one now or wait? I hate the fact that the laptops are being thrown to the side.
